Melissa is the newest member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), the influential fashion council headed by designer Diane Von Furstenberg. In April, the brand was invited to join the Business Service Network, a program of the CFDA comprised of high-profile companies in the US that provide designers with strategic opportunities. Melissa has been sold in the US for four years and is available at more than a thousand points of sale, including upscale stores like Saks and Bergdorf Goodman and the ever- fashionable Scoop, in NYC. The news has spread quickly throughout the media, which anxiously await the brand’s teaming up with a local fashion designer as well as other novelties that are sure to come from Melissa’s inclusion on the CFDA.
WWD states, “In the past, shoe company Melissa collaborated with the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler, Vivienne Westwood.... Future partnerships, however, could well be with American talent.” In Brazil, the website Chic and web portal Terramention Melissa as one of the few Brazilian brands that is a member of the Council, highlighting its international partnerships.
