Jay 2010 Inspiration

For Fall 2010 JAY GODFREY was inspired by the photos of Ellen Von Unwerth and Jeanloup Sieff.
The black and white images are beautifully sexy in their celebration of the female form.

The striking images inspired laced-up and corseted seams, mesh panels and a few darkly dangerous designs geared towards the fun and freedom of our contemporary lifestyle. This mood translates to clothes that are clean and modern with cutouts, low backs, feminine ruffles and touches of ostrich feathers strategically placed to evoke a certain sauciness and sensuality. There is an obvious contrast between shape and fabrication: evening fabrics such as silks and jacquards are cut in casual easy shapes, whereas sporty daytime fabrics like t-shirt and sweatshirt jersey are draped in provocative and unexpected ways that challenge our preconceived notions about what is casual and dressy.

Cannot Wait!

Another Tease :)

Nicole Q&A

Recently Nicole sat down with Revolve Clothing and myself- take a peak.

REVOLVE Clothing: I noticed lots of peacocks, equestrian references, and some cool wax coatings, what was your inspiration for this collection?
Nicole Richie: There's a movie called "From Hell" Starring Johnny Depp that inspired me among other things. That time period is fascinating.

RC: Do you have a particular piece that is your favorite, or one you find most striking?
NR: The peacock cuff.

RC: How do you think your design style has changed from your first season?
NR: I wouldn't say it's changed. I'm influenced by the seasons. I think a winter holiday line is a little more put together, sleeker. I'm more "let loose" in the summer.

RC: Are there any styles or pieces that have carried over from the first collection and become a House of Harlow signature?
NR: The lockets and the cuffs.

RC: What do you think makes your line stand out from the other accessories?
NR: It's playful but chic. The best of both.

Diane Pernet

I'll let Frankie take it from here: "Miss Diane Pernet has Melissa Shoes by Vivienne Westwood on her blog today! Nothing major but what Diane says is cool... IS."

I couldn't agree more.

City Short

Despite its difficult entry into the 21st century, the city that never sleeps has regrouped, found its rhythm and hit back with a rather different design agenda. Once driven by excess, New York has entered an era of austerity, yet thanks to a greater appreciation of quality over quantity, the city has never felt more compelling. Here Richard Christiansan of Chandelier Creative describes his perfect day in the city.

Profilin' & Stylin'

Amanda is wearing the Black Halo Selena Mini- out in January!
Each week I will be posting a new Q&A with one of our Account Executives. For the first installment I would like to introduce you to Amanda! Fiery, fierce, and fantastic- Amanda and I sat down for a little question and answer session- see below.

L: How long have you been at Joey Showroom?
A: It will be two years this February. Another girl and I started on the same day in 2008 right before the Fashion Week and Coterie madness. I luckily survived fashion boot camp....the other girl unfortunately didn't.

L: What inspires you?
A:"These streets will make you feel brand new....Big lights will inspire you...Hear it for Newwww Yorrrrkkk." No, really though, I get inspired daily by my surroundings and all of the talented young designers and musicians in this amazing city I now call my home.

L: Name your most coveted fashion item.
A: Currently, the Alexander Wang Diego Studded Bucket Bag--black leather, of course. Oh, and I definitely wouldn't mind some Rick Owens; Spring 2010 takes a new direction.

L: Are you listening to Ke$ha as much as the gays at Joey are?
A: Who's Ke$ha?

L: How many smoke breaks occur throughout a hectic day?
A: Hmmm, let's say 2. Maybe for 2010 I should do jumping jacks outside instead.

L: If you could live in one decade which one would it be and why?
A: I would like to merge 40s fashion with the mentality and the independance of the 60s.

L: Gaga or Britney?
A: Definitely Gaga. She is more daring, thinks outside of the box, and also has a better voice. However, I would prefer to not actually know all the words to her songs. Paul Fleming thinks its okay to play her tracks every day on repeat at JSNY.....not really into her THAT much. ; )

Why the competition ladies?

Kim, Lisa, Ali - we need to talk. First, let me just say that all of you look eye popping in your Jay Godfrey colorblock siren dress that can be picked up at www.thehipchick.com. Second, why are you all competing! Kim you've got the curves, Lisa you are the #1 Cougar, and Ali- ohhhh Ali- you made walking to set in flip flops sexy. Kim don't get mad that I said Ali's name twice! It was for effect! Now Lisa I have NOT said Ali's name three times...

Fashion is our love of loves here at Joey Showroom, but all of us find inspiration from other places. Some find it in Cartagena, some find it with Alejandro, some even find it out a bar- but for me I find it peering through people's windows at night. Wait wait wait wait wait, let me explain... interior design! I lurve me some interior design. So I am going to post a photo of the most inspiring room for me each week. Let me know what you think :)

Somethin's Bloomin'!
